Marching to the beat of his own drum...

Most senior sessions are representative of their subjects and Christian’s was no different—it wasn’t exactly a senior session because we threw in some family shots (because it was the only way we could get his dad to agree to family photos). Full of life and energy, Christian “marches to the beat of his own drum.”

Which is a phrase with a military reference—in parades or drill exercises, military personnel would practice marching in sync with each other. So, if someone marches to the beat of their own drum, he or she would naturally be out of sync with rest of the company. Hence, it means someone who is distinct in their own person.

As a youngster, Christian had an uncanny ability to operate independently, spending time with those much older than himself. At 16, he spent a month in the Wyoming wilderness doing a NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) course, an immersive leadership wilderness experience, where most of the participants were recent college graduates. Impressive.

Christian’s days and hours are full: school, swim practice, family dinner, and an evening activity like climbing. (When does he study and do homework??) He plays on two varsity teams: football and swimming, and serves as a captain on the swim team. Outside of school, his favorite pastime is “bouldering.” (New to bouldering? It’s a form of rock climbing that’s done on small rock formations or artificial rock walls. Without the use of ropes or harnesses, of course.)

Christian’s future aspirations are the evolution of his daily ones: he’d like to serve in the army and climb mountains. And after the army? Christian thinks he might like to teach. And with the charisma and energy he’ll bring to the classroom, the impact Christian will have on young minds to influence and inspire will be transformative!

Congrats on being a senior, Christian! I can’t wait to see what mountains you climb and what you tackle in your next chapter—
