Photography Curriculum

CHALLENGE

Develop an engaging high school photography curriculum that makes complex technical concepts accessible while fostering students' creativity and visual awareness.

APPROACH

I developed a foundational teaching approach, breaking complex concepts into manageable lessons that progressively build students' knowledge and skills. Alongside technical instruction, I incorporated "eye training" exercises to help students recognize the visual elements of a scene and use them to create compelling photographs.

RESULTS

Students developed a stronger understanding of both the technical and creative aspects of photography, with many demonstrating significant growth in their photographic abilities. Two former students have continued pursuing photography professionally—one as a professional photographer after college and another while studying visual communications in college.
